Revealed at the Aliyah Committee: a delegation found Law of Return eligibles in Ethiopia — 21 of 146 applications approved
At a session of the Knesset Aliyah and Absorption Committee on 7 September 2026 it emerged that a delegation of the Population Authority and the Jewish Agency travelled to Addis Ababa in July 2026 to examine 146 applications for aliyah under the Law of Return. 21 were approved, one rejected, the rest under review. The committee chair: the data contradicts the state's 2013 position.

A week into September, registration for the Marom scholarship has still not opened. The Students Authority has opened applications for 5787. Olim from Ethiopia, from Yemen, and Bnei Menashe have an extended eligibility track: 15 years from receiving status to the start of studies instead of 36 months, higher age ceilings, master's funding on top of a bachelor's, and a ₪600 monthly living stipend. Continuing students: by October 1.

The school year has opened: these are the maximum amounts a school may charge you in 5787 — and what may not be charged at all
On August 10, 2026 the Ministry of Education published Notice 0379 — the maximum parent-payment amounts for 5787, approved by the Knesset Education Committee. The only compulsory payment is personal accident insurance, ₪69. The overall total ranges from ₪253 in kindergarten to ₪1,372 in twelfth grade. And with no approval in the "Afik" system — do not pay.

There is a scholarship budget for parent payments — and the school is obliged to tell you it exists
The Ministry of Education allocates schools a scholarship budget for pupils whose parents struggle to pay for books, learning materials and activities. ₪100–750 in primary school, ₪100–1,200 in secondary. The decision sits with a school scholarship committee, the dates are set by the school — and management is under an explicit duty to publicize that the budget exists.

A week into the school year: what the CBS data actually says about education in the community — including one number that is quoted backwards
The Central Bureau of Statistics published 57.7% against 39.1% — and that number is quoted again and again as though it means 57.7% of Ethiopian-Israelis go on to a degree. It does not. It says something else entirely, and the real continuation figure is 23.2%. A review of the education data in the release, including the matriculation gaps and the trends that are rising.

Knesset document: a ₪5,800 monthly wage gap — 43.6% — between Ethiopian-Israeli employees and other Jewish employees in the same industries
An economic review by the Knesset Research and Information Center dated 10.8.2025 presents a double picture: the employment rate among Ethiopian-Israelis is high relative to their share of the working-age population — 3.4% of Jewish salaried jobs against 2.8% of the population — while the average wage is 43.6% lower. The largest gaps are precisely in the highest-paying industries.

Government report: the number of Ethiopian-Israeli teachers rose from 709 to 1,180 in four years — and in non-formal education some of the numbers fell
The summary report of the government programme for the integration of Ethiopian-Israelis for 2023–2024, published in January 2026, presents targets met in formal education: matriculation eligibility meeting the university threshold rose from 50.54% to 59.89%, above target. In the same report, the number of children in enrichment classes and the number of gap-year volunteers fell.

The summary report of the government programme for 2023–2024 details five Ministry of Labour employment programmes for Ethiopian-Israelis, with participant numbers and an implementation level for each. The interesting measure is not the number of participants but the wage increase: from only 10% in 2020 to 47% on average in 2024.

The High Holidays of 5787: the dates, and the names the community carries for them
Rosh Hashanah 5787 on 12-13 September, Yom Kippur on 21 September, Sukkot from 26 September. In Beta Israel tradition these holidays carry their own names — Berhan Saraqa, Astasreyo — and a Ge'ez liturgy the kessim hold by heart. And from Yom Kippur the 50 days to Sigd are counted.

The national plan for structural reinforcement expired for good on 18 May 2026, and permit applications can no longer be filed under it. Municipal plans replace it.
